How many accounts would you say is the minimum to follow in order to get a feed that is "algorithmic" in the sense that it's a rewarding combination of curated (in the sense of me having made an informed choice to follow them) and random (in the sense of being added to my feed on account of my curated accounts interacting with them) accounts?

tbh I found it wasn't so much the accounts as the hashtags that finally got my timeline really humming.

In my case it was 1, because I found the curator account for mastodon dot art fairly easily and a feed full of art was precisely what I wanted. Obviously that’s not going to work for everyone, but you can get lucky and only need a few.
