My install of #friendica (or if it applies to Friendica in general?) doesn't really support alt-txt, so @Altbot is a great service.

Just wanted you to know.

*rysningar*)

Ok. Let's see what @Altbot can do (provided I managed to give consent).
The image features a person standing against a deep blue background, illuminated by a purple light. The individual is wearing a light-colored sleeveless tank top and dark shorts. Their arms are raised above their head, with hands open and fingers slightly spread, creating a graceful pose. The lighting accentuates the contours of their muscles, particularly in the arms and shoulders, highlighting their physical form. The person's hair is light-colored and appears slightly tousled. The overall composition focuses on the individual, with the background providing a stark contrast that emphasizes the subject.

This is surprisingly intense. The premise is pretty stupid, as is most of the plot, when scrutinized. But it's - as mentioned - intense and foreboding and relentless. Not one of his best, but apocalyptic enough for me. I don't think I enjoyed it this much during the first two viewings.

This hits really hard if you work with young children and/or is a parent. I can see how/why framing it within a horror narrative seemed lika a good idea on paper, but at the same time it's the weakest part of this otherwise gutwrenching drama about loss, loneliness and mental illness.

Nostalgia hits hard in this combination of my two main interests at the time: slashers and metal. It's a movie that seems based on discarded "Elm Street" ideas but is saved by the entertainingly over-the-top acting from Mitch Pileggi and an ambitious hunt through various TV-landscapes. Yeah, and the soundtrack. Obviously.

This might be my third time watching the movie (last time was 2016), and I keep mixing it up with another Vietnam war movie. Ah, well... This is really strong medicine and a more of a lesson in morality than a depiction of the Vietnam war. That said, this is nonetheless essential viewing for anyone interested in war dramas and especially those concerning the Vietnam war.

https://neodb.social/movie/17di0KLMu15MEcT2rGavEC

As mentioned before, I can't really get a grip on Herzog. The opening sequence is magnificent and on a whole, the movie has that classic "Apocalypse Now"-feel to it that really appeals to me. But then there's the matter of the lack of a plot (or rather the director's lack of interest to actually focus on the plot). There are too many gaps in the story that need to be filled by the viewer and the premise (what is the actual premise?) disappears in favor of exploing other themes. Does every Werner Herzog movie have to come with a handbook?!

finished watching Så länge hjärtat slår 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/2D9osvQcru3pB2NZbBT225

finished watching The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
https://neodb.social/movie/4opdQQ0KitSJIFiF6DwEZt

It's like everything falls into place in this movie - from the near anti-acting of Bruno S to the near anti-direction of Herzog. It's actually hard for me to summarize this exceptional experience in a comment or review.

finished watching Eraserhead 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/4LqjDSEVgQ5EsIpr5eIfkZ

I do have a preference for movies where young, driven filmmakers take their first shot at exploring their artistry. Eraserhead is packed with "Lynchian" tropes that appear more unrefined - raw - than in his later, better (but not necessarily more interesting) movies. Here, images and soundscapes work together to create a kind of hypnotic and nightmarish mood that can only be found when fantasy/creativity is processed though a medium that the artist is still learning how to use. It's intuitive. It's magnificent. It's impossible to recreate.

finished watching Caligula: The Ultimate Cut 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/7M9WgqLlWUefxt48Twm84e

Wondering how much Peter O'Toole regretted participating in this spectacle that continually balances on the verge of absurd awesomeness, but spends most of the time in grotesque pretentiousness instead. And even if I do want to applaud the totally overbombastic, theatralic approach, the movie - as a movie - leaves a lot to wish for. Perhaps it the direction had been done by someone who actually knew how to direct, this could have been the masterpiece it now fails to be.

finished watching Hereditary 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/0gbQMeYd3ItrvPI8ZsL4TD

Ari Aster borrows from Roman Polanski ("Rosemary' Baby") and Jennifer Kent ("The Babadook") to create a horror movie that would've worked better as a drama.

finished watching The Beales of Grey Gardens 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/3hqEZkiOALVRYJ7DKK90jn

A companion piece to "Grey Gardens", this documentary adds focus to the complete and utter dysfunctional everyday life of these two women while also addressing - albeit as a parenthesis - Edies possible struggle with mental health. But as it's predecessor, this is a hard (read: tedious) watch that might warrant a break or two just to be able to finish it without passing out from the contant yapping.

Each movie is a solid 3, but seen as a whole I'm inclined to give it/them 3,5. It really is fascinating stuff.

Fascinating portrait of these two - some would call them excentric - women who live in misery without realizing it. And no one around them seem to be able (or willing) to help them.

finished watching The Spy 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/7O3udsWO9x4BRRCpuF8BX6

Another movie in the category "WWII from a norwegian/scandinavian perspective". It starts off really slow paced, only to tip over halfway and having the end rushed through. There's little depth to the characters and I go through the movie thinking how much Ingrid Bolsø Berdal looks like a younger Sigourney Weaver. (That might explain my difficulties in following the pretty basic plot, btw.)

finished watching Nosferatu: Phantom of the Night 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/1wvdBt31VP6Fxb5dTPMauz

This remake by Herzog seems at times to parody the original, rather than praise it. But maybe that's the point? Whatever. This has no appeal whatsoever. Antoher vampire flick that can go directly in the bin.

finished watching Three Colors: Red 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/0tj2YkmxELUm3iMBczKmPN

Sort of a weak conclusion to this trilogy, it's not for lack of good acting or filmmaking that this gets a lower score than the previous two. (Or does it? I honestly can't remember how I rated the others...)

finished watching Heart of Glass 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/4tJWbzPofgc6dqjsaBsw80

I have a hard time trying to work myself through Herzog's early, experimental movies. This one starts off on a positive note, though, but about halfway through I lose interest and focus. Maybe these movies need to be seen in the middle of the day with lots and lots of coffee?

finished watching With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑
https://neodb.social/movie/0EIPDxvcCftgtvlIQpuk7X

There are some fact here I didn't know about Stan Lee. It's an interesting story up to around the 80's - then the filmmakers seem to find difficulties in sorting the information. There are of course lots of things happening, but any good storyteller (you could've asked Stan!) knows that you have to stay on track. This documentary does not. But up until then, it's worth your time if you're interested in the man behind the masks.
